Day 25 Darr River, Longreach

10 July

The road into Lara Wetlands was still closed today so we ambled up past Longreach to the free campp beside the Darr River. The river is a lot higher than when we last camped here. We have a great spot up closer to the railway end. There was even a huge log left on the camp fire, which was still burning.

Before breakfast Rosie and I enjoyed our regular constitutional around the Showgrounds, as the sun rose, catching the trees and buildings in a lovely glow of first morning light.

It has been such a relaxing afternoon enjoyed by the fire left by our anonymous predecessors. As the afternoon moved on, more nomads moved in to set up camp along the riverbank. The happy sounds of campers, combined with wagtails and Kites whistling were delightful undertones to the crackling of our fire.
