I must stop hitting the ‘discard’ button on WP. I lost yesterday’s blog😖
Take 2 Day 27 12 July
Oodnooroo:
Rosie made an interesting new friend on our early morning walk as the sun rose.
We drove into Winton via the station road today. It took us past the local waterhole with the usual swing hanging from one of the trees. There were flocks of budgerigars in the trees, singing loudly. From there we drove though several huge, flat, yellow paddocks with a few cattle and sheep.
In town we paused for lunch at the Gregory Hotel, where had camped last trip. We enjoyed the best ever steak sandwiches in the cool beer garden. The open air movie theatre next door has been reopened and renovated, so we spent some time wandering around there before shopping and heading back to camp
Day 28 13 July
Oodnooroo to Kungku Kanu Waterhole
After farewelling our friends at Oodnooroo we returned again to Winton and took the Landsborough Highway towards Cloncurry. Norm planned a short trip today of less than 80 klms to the free camp at a fascinating site near where the Guwa aboriginal people have left marks on the stone walls. There are eye catching red and cream weathered mesas and deep ochre coloured cliffs around the deep pool at their base. I enjoyed a short refreshing dip in the cool water.

The sun set and afterglow on the rocks was spectacular as a banana moon and bright venus rose in the deep puple blue sky.
Day 29 15 July
Walk About Creek Hotel McKinley
Rosie was so excited this morning on our walk when she found a skull and shoulder bone from a lamb. She was much less impressed when I took them away.
