Days 33 & 34 Lake Canellan Camooweal

18 – 19 July

A beautiful sunrise greeted us on Sunday morning. The wind did not return until nearly midday, so Rosie and I enjoyed a lovely walk along the lake, exploring our new home. There are so many different birds here, including my favourite pelican, the awesome brolgas, little black ducks, heron, shags, whistling kites. lapwings, galahs, budgerigars in their hundreds, butcher birds, peewees, little finches and probably more that I have over looked.

There are still a few pretty water lillies flowering; mostly white and some purple. One of our fellow campers told me that the water level has gone down rather a lot since he was last here in May. I noticed that there are many yabbie holes with their tell tale pile of mud at the entrance, as well as several empty mussel shells.

Norm set up the camp fire on Sunday evening, and grilled the most delicious steak for dinner. We both love sitting by the fire as the sun goes downs and the stars begin to light up the sky. The evening sky was magnificent and the fire kept us warm as we enjoyed the light show in the black background.

Today has been more of the same, a lovely sunrise, early morning walk and then windy for most of the day. The honking arrival of the brolgas as they fly in is spectacular to watch. Their long necks stick right out in front, and their legs trail behind like the tail of a kite. They honk continuously until they land, one foot down and then the other. There seems to be a couple of groups. The one I have noticed the most includes mum, dad and two juveniles.
