22 July
The early morning light painted a beautiful scene on our walk before breakfast. Rosie, however, was more interested in the delicious smells around the old campfire.
We camped at Newcastle Waters so that we would have a short drive up to Daly Waters this morning to ensure that we could get a reasonable camp site. Norm’s plans worked, and having arrived there soon after 10am we were escorted to a lovely grassy site not very far from the pub.

Norm soon got to chatting to our neighbour opposite, who turned out to be Dave, aka ‘Tonic’ from the band ‘Jen & Tonic’, one of the entertainment groups in camp. The second string to his bow, so to speak, is making signs for caravans. So after Dave had performed the afternoon gig, he created and applied our new ‘AMBLING AUSTINS’ sign. We are no longer anonymous.

The owner of the pub has made a lot of changes to the surroundings since we were last here. As well as catching some of Dave and Jen’s performance we ambled around, checking out the ‘new’ museum of old cars and other relics.

The second band to entertain us for the evening was one that we had seen here before, Lou & Phill – a great couple of talented performers. We were back in the ‘Beer Garden’ when they took up the stage at 5pm, and remained there for the evening as the near full moon rose and the coloured lights came on. Our Beef and Barra dinner was as yummy as ever, and Norm even managed to save a few morsels for Rosie.
