27 – 28 JULY
A lovely silver moon was still shining above, on Tuesday as we set out to make the most of the cool air.

We paused at the cross to place the flowers there and spend a few moments in reflection. I kept a blue flower from the bunch to tie on the tree at our memorial site.

End of day 2 Construction
Norm worked on construction of the base for the memorial over the next few hours until it again became too hot to continue.
Back home at camp we chilled during the heat of the day. As it cooled down, Norm completed attaching the plaque. He has done a fabulous job – it looks amazing.

During the early evening we were entertained by a young singer, Rhyley McGrath. His guitar work was awesome.

Day 3 Wednesday
Our first goal this morning was to get to the Post Office and pick up Deb’s parcel. It wasn’t there when I first called in at 8AM. However, soon after we drove off a lovely lady, Veronica rang to let me know she had found it. Deb had thoughtfully included a very touching card with the ashes. It meant a lot to me to read her words.
While Norm got stuck into working on the memorial, I poured the ashes into the Jack Daniels bottle, then found some pretty grass seeds and a red flower from a nearby tree to include with them.
I also found a small smudge of the blue paint that the police investigators had sprayed on the road back on 5 November 2018.
Norm worked so hard as the temperatures rose up over 30 degrees. Finally by about midday the memorial was complete. Just as he was putting the final touches onto the mortar, a military police car from the Tindal Base, we assume, drove up. We were surprised that it took them three days to do so. As it turned out, they just looked at us, then after a short period smiled at us as if they had realised what we were up to. They then drove off and continued their patrol. We cleaned up, took one last look at our progress then returned ‘home’ to shower and relax as the heat slowly dissipated for the day.
