DAY 46 COOMALIE

1 August

The sun was just rising when Rosie and I ambled off on our first walk of the day. By the time we had walked a short distance down the landing strip the sun was already ramping up the temperature, in readiness for yet another very hot Northern Territory day.

I joined Denise this morning at her local church, St Francis at Batchelor to celebrate communion. I enjoyed the service conducted by the Pastor, Ruth and her husband who played the guitar, immensely. Ruth’s daughter, Hannah and her family were visiting from Canberra, so we had a lot in common to share. Ruth has moved up here from Burra, not very far from Tony’s block. We were also joined by a group of Missionaries, the Mobile Missionary Service (I think), who have been up here repairing and painting the church.

After lunch, Richard took us and a group of others on a tour of the base. Although we have been on previous tours, I always learn something more about the interesting history of this place.

As the evening breeze blew in, cooling us just the slightest bit, we gathered back at James’ and Denise’s and shared a meal of leftovers from last night awesome feast. Rick, another part time Coomalie resident arrived home in time to join us.
