19 AUGUST 2021
Coomalie has settled back down to a slower, quieter more reflective mood, after all the excitement of the brief couple of days ‘invasion’ of the WW2 Military Vehicles and the mighty old Flying Machines. Most of the people who had arrived in all manner of wheels from vintage motor cars, to campers, caravans, trailers, tents, swags and even one road train (!) have now packed up and moved on. We who are left have been affected by the current three day COVID lock downs in Darwin and Katherine. One couple, Dave & Helen made a dash for home in outer Darwin yesterday when they remembered that their one legged love bird was still at home and could be running short of water, not to mention the precious orchids! SO they made a dash for home. Later they reported in that they were home safely and the bird and orchids were doing well.

On Tuesday drove down to Adelaide River . It was hard to imagine that in the Wet this river can turn into a huge, raging river that rises up to the level of the road and rail bridges. We went time at the Adelaide River War Cemetery. I was taken aback as I wandered past the many graves of such young men in their late teens and early twenties. Of course there were older men as well, fathers, brothers, sons, all who gave their lives for their country; all loved and missed. The cemetery is beautifully maintained and such a peaceful place to spend time in relflection.
Yesterday’s sunrise was as spectacular as ever.
Early that morning we were visited by the wild Crocodile man of Coomalie. The dogs were SO excited by his appearance, they ran round and round in circles, barking, tails wagging ready to greet this incredible apparition with joy.
The Kerry Nissan work shop co-ordinator rang us in the afternoon to tell us that LINUS was finally repaired and ready for pick up. Because of the COVID restrictions all we could do was cheer and wait for the news that we could once again enter Darwin. We remaining Coomalie Family members, Denise, James, Richard, Nikki, Barrie, Norm and I gathered together in the evening to share a delicious master chef cook off, of 2 Cottage Pies, created by Norm and Denise.
