DAY 70: COOMALIE THE MORNING AFTER THE STORM

WEDNESDAY 24 AUGUST 2021

Yesterday was a very warm day with a warm muggy wind blowing. Several times I resorted to a plunge in the pool (clothes and all). Towards the afternoon dark clouds rolled in, illuminated by the occasional flash of lightening followed by a long, low growl or thunder, which echoed across the sky.

Our more experienced Coomalie dwellers advised that it is too early for ‘The Wet’ yet, and that we might not even get a drop of rain here. Just incase, Norm battened down the camp in preparation for a gale.

We were gathered over at the Wrightie’s Mansion, when finally, after much anticipation and a warning prelude of lightening and thunder, the rains came. Richard popped the cork off a bubbly bottle, and we drank to Aeolis – the God of Storms. Then out of the gloom of the evening we heard the distant roar of a tractor approaching followed by the ceremonial arrival of Rick slashing his way in from the wilds on board the red tractor.

This morning dawned cloudy and cool, so I decided to take a walk along a new track, which ended up in a beautiful glade of trees. The king of the roos was waiting there to greet me before hopping off into the forrest.

When I returned home, I was delighted to see dear little Chinner there to greet me.
