DAY 30 COOMALIE

4 JUNE 2022

Early morning here on the Airfield is the perfect time to take a walk and explore this fascinating place. The air is lovely and cool, often a touch of mist or smoke from the various fires that occur at this time of year, is still swirling amongst the tall grasses and the delightful mixed melodies and chorus of the birds welcoming the early morning light is awesome as the sounds reverberate in the forests of trees nearby.

On Tuesday morning Norm joined James and his friends at the Bachelor Men’s shed, whilst I enjoyed time with Rosie and Coomalie. As the day warmed up I took great pleasure in plunging into the refreshingly cool waters of Denises’ plunge pool.

After lunch Norm and I took Rosie and Coomalie for a drive into Bachelor to see how they travelled together in the car. They both seemed to enjoy their drive immensely.

The Desert Roses, as well as Frangipanis and many other plants are blooming with spectacular magnificence in Denises’s gardens at Party Central. The Banana and Paw Paw trees are heavy with fruit and it feels like we are living in a tropical paradise here.

Early on Wednesday morning our happy trouble free time was shattered by the terrible news that one of James’ best mates had passed away during the night. Norm and James had spent time with him the day before at the Men’s Shed. It has come as a most horrible realisation that ‘Bonner’ is gone. I met him last trip at the sausage sizzle stall at the Bachelor Markets. He was such gentle , likeable man, who volunteered his help and support in many local events . Last Australia Day he was honoured as the local Australia Day Citizen of the Year.

As you can imagine we have all been feeling very upset and sad as we digest the sad news. Denises’ dance group, ‘The Grey Panthers’ were due to dance at the World’s Biggest Morning Tea Cancer Fund Raiser up in Darwin on Thursday. After some consideration and encouragement from James she decided to join the others for the occasion, and I drove up to see the performance. The first act was a group of Celtic dancers who gave a very tight, entertaining performance. There were several other groups before the Grey Panthers finally strutted their stuff very admirably, led by the very talented Darryl.

  1. Hi Sue,,

No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to find a direct way to send you a message. I watch your wonderful videos and marvel at the wondrousness you share with all of us. You have had a ball, for sure. So glad you found so much happy amidst the travails of life. You inspire and I’d love to give you a big hug!

If you get this message and if you’re functional, please respond so I can converse a bit with you and ask about Graeme. You both lit up my life with many ticklish memories. I was always so proud to know you and share experiences with you. You guys are real characters! Your videos in the Yukon tell me stories I was unaware we had shared. The old memory sytem is not operating at 100%!

I wish you and your man everything good. You have enriched many. You did good, girl. Only the best.
