SUNDAY 12 JUNE 2022
Over the last couple of days, the weather has cooled down considerably as a cold front passed over us. The Doona has been retrieved from hibernation to manage the chilling overnight temperature plummet to 10 degrees. Our warm coats, which NT Tourist sites confidently advise you will never need up here, have been required to avoid a shivering walk in the mornings, and the thought of a dip in the pool is most unappealing.
Today the monthly Batchelor Markets were held on the sweeping green lawns at the local Bi-Centennial Park under the cool shade of the canopy of the huge Raintrees. Norm helped James run the sausage sizzle for the Men’s Shed, Denise set up her ’Coomalie Creations’ stall, and others sold plants, books, baskets, clothes and such like, with the live music of a singer and his guitar joined by the local birds in full song giving the markets a happy and cheerful atmosphere.

I popped along to St Francis for the morning Church Service before joining the others.Steve Walker, who has relocated with his young family of 3, including 7 week old baby, gave the sermon today. I enjoyed listening to him, and feel that I have come away with a deeper understanding of what is required of me as spelt out in Deuteronomy 5 in which the 10 Commandments are outlined again. I liked the way Steve compared God’s covenant with us to the marriage vows between a man an woman.
Back home at Coomalie it was the perfect afternoon for lazing in camp with a book in the company of the dogs. Rosie made it very clear that she had a thirst for a XXXX Gold, whilst Chinner unapologetically made herself at home on Norm’s chair. The 5 second rule is firmly adhered to here. If you leave your chair vacant for more than that time the first to claim it owns it.

This evening we were treated to the most magnificent sunset yet, thanks in part to the smoke from the controlled burn offs prevalent in these parts at this time of year.
