Glorious blue, sunny, cloudless skies greeted us this morning – HALLELUHAJ!!! At last it was time to pack up and amble back out on the road. Evidence of the last few days of heavy rain lay everywhere in the wet paddocks, full creeks and rivers and boggy tracks left on the sides of the road by more intrepid adventures than us.
We paused beside the Balonne River at St George for a picnic lunch.

We have given up on the idea of an overnight camp at the Nindigully Pub this trip. There is not enough time for the ground to dry before we need to be home. We headed to Dirranbandi instead, and are now camped at the Dirranbandi Retreat Van Park.

Last time we were here we enjoyed a beaut free camp out beside the Balonne River. Out of curiosity we took a drive there to check it out – there was water lying around everywhere, and deep muddy wheel ruts told the story of those who have been there the last few days.

Dirranbandi is is lovely rural town, on the border of Queensland with New South Wales, which is obviously very proud of the local Croaking Frogs. Cubbbie Station, which is the largest irrigated cotton farm in the Southern Hemisphere is not far out town. The harvest must have only recently occurred because several road trains loaded with yellow plastic bails of cotton passed us, heading towards St George. The verges of the road are lined with white balls of cotton that have escaped from the passing trucks.
