Yesterday morning we drove out of Dirranbandi and ambled down to Hebel and past its lovely old pub. Soon after we past the turn off to Lightning Ridge we pulled up at the nearest rest area for our lunch break. Across the way was a typical Lightning Ridge Sculpture, which amused me.
Soon after our picnic lunch, we drove through colourful yellow paddocks of golden canola and towards Coonamble with its eye catching painted tower.
Finally corrugated galah sculptures announced that we were finally approaching Gulargambone, and our home for the night at the Caravan Park.

This morning the dogs and I enjoyed a short walk in the bright early sunshine, however there were also ominous clouds overhead.

The weather forecast is not suggesting the best weather for our last two nights on the road. Showers and even snow in the higher parts are on offer. We are now looking forward to being back home with the heater cranked up and warm slippers and a dog on our laps.
On the way out of Gulargambone we drove past even more bird sculptures. Back on the Castlereagh Highway, we enjoyed wonderful vistas in the distance of the beautiful eye-catching Warumbungles. We are now set up for the night beside the old Grenfell Railway Station.

Tomorrow will be the last camp before home. At the moment Norm is still planning to head for the Gunning Showground, our traditional last night’s camp when heading home from this direction. It leaves us with a short drive on the last day, so we arrive home reasonably fresh. I can’t wait to introduce Coomalie to her new home, and the neighbouring dogs, Pippa on one side and Chloe on the other.
