7 June
Yesterday, when the sun lowered into the West, Norm set up the camp fire. We relaxed by the fire listening to the evening birdsong and chirruping of crickets while watching the breathtaking reflections of the trees mirrored on the still surface of the river. Gradually other campfires lit up as our many fellow campers spread along the riverbank settled into the evening.
This morning Rosie and I enjoyed an early wander along the river.
In the main street of Jericho we came across an intriguing old drive in movie theatre dating back to the 1960’s. Apparently they still screen movies there a couple of times a month. Movie goers now enjoy the movie from the comfort of huge deck chairs rather than their cars. There is still one car speaker on display as a reminder of how it once was.
Across the road from the theatre there is a strange stone sculpture – The Crystal Trumpeters. Given that we are in Jericho on the Jordan River not far from the Lake of Galilee, Joshua and the walls of Jericho must be the theme.

Sadly, the pub has closed as have just about all the shops in town. The school looks well cared for, as does the fascinating police ‘station’.
