Richard arranged a small memorial gathering today, on the anniversary of the demise of the last Lockheed Lightning plane A55-1, which crashed here at Coomalie and burst into flames when the nose wheel collapsed upon landing. The pilot, Flt/Lt C. J. Rush managed to escape with burns to both arms. We gathered early in the morning, beside the image of a Lockheed some distance down the runway.
After serving us all a cuppa Richard gave a short summary of the events that unfolded back in 1944.
